JUNIOR TENNIS PROGRAMS
We offer a wide variety of tennis lessons for youth ages 5-18 years old, ranging from beginner levels to tournament players. All of our programs are based on USTA’s Junior Competencies and Progressions. Here at FSTC, we take great pride in our program of advancing your child’s love and enjoyment of the game, providing excellent group training followed up by match and league play opportunities.
Our classes are based on skill level rather than age. Players will be evaluated and grouped in programs and on specific courts with other players of similar ability and NTRP rating (for Yellow Ball classes). Periodic evaluations will be conducted and players will progress court by court, program by program, as they become proficient at each level.
Our goal is to provide a steady progression for all children. In order to do so, monthly commitment to a program is required. As a courtesy, please contact Jennifer Toomy at 757-683- 5312 for drop-ins or if your child will miss a class. Make-ups may be done on another day of the week with approval or Saturdays within the month. Make-ups do not carry over to the following month.
2023 JUNIOR TENNIS PARENTS LETTER
Welcome to the 2023 Junior Tennis Program! At Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center at ODU, we have a wide variety of class
offerings planned for children, ages 5-18, ranging from beginner levels to tournament players. Our 18 & under program
is based on the National USTA Junior Training Center and follows the USTA National Player Development Protocol:
http://www.usta.com/About-USTA/Player-Development/10_and_under_tennis_competencies_instruction/.
Here at FSTC, we take great pride in our program of advancing your child’s love and enjoyment of the game, providing
excellent group training followed up by match and league play opportunities. Consistency is key for children to grasp and
reinforce concepts at any given level, and then to advance their level of play. Our goal is to provide a steady progression
for all children in a class. In order to do so, monthly commitment to a program is required. For this reason, we will no
longer allow “drop-ins” as they often interrupt the progression of groups that have been working consistently over a
period of time. Also, make-ups must be made on Saturdays and within the month. We can no longer allow carry overs
to the next month, without a medical note from a physician. Our staffing is planned appropriately with a ratio of no
more than 6:1 and it is challenging to provide excellent staffing without prior knowledge of how many students and
what levels will be attending. This policy will ultimately benefit your child’s experience at our facility. The monthly costs
will be determined based on the number of sessions each month and payment will be expected on or before the first
class of each month.
Class registration is being accepted for one, two or three days per week. Call or stop by the front desk to register.
Please feel free to contact me at 757-683-5312, if you have any questions, jtoomy@odu.edu.
Thank you for your dedication to our Junior Tennis Programs.
